Tech Outbound

Technical Training Events

Our Origin Story:

We were not always Tech Outbound. In 2010 we had a spark of inspiration - provide results-oriented technical training that supported career growth for attendees while delivering the training in a unique environment. Out of that simple concept was born SQL Cruise.

Our Mission:

Provide unique, compelling, and life changing weeks of training while building long-lasting relationships between Thought Leaders and students.

Our Model:

Deliver intense training events by industry Thought Leaders in intimate environments. With a 4:1 ratio, attendees immerse themselves in training, networking and problem solving. Students are able to bring real-world problems with them to discuss 1:1 or in small groups with our Technical Leads outside of dedicated class time.

Our Future:

Over a dozen events later we have seen unprecedented results from our SQL Cruise alumni and have forged amazing relationships as we focused on the Microsoft data platform. With the rapid pace of change and advancement in our industry, we are continuing to evolve to deliver on the training that our attendees need to stay competitive in their roles and also scale to share the successes we have seen with SQL Cruise and our data professional focus. We will now be providing content to serve all audiences relying on data from DBAs and Database Developers to Application Developers, Enterprise Leaders, and IT Pros.

Customer Reviews

Our customers say it best!

The Real Deal
“SQL Cruise is the real deal. I was hesitant at first about the value, but now I would recommend it to anyone. In no other training can you steer the group topics to places you want to know more about–and then follow up the next day. I hope to go again.”
More Useful than the Last Few Conferences Combined
“I really did gather more useful bits this week than in the last 2-3 conferences combined.   I’ve been fighting with several very specific issues and I think someone hit every one of the problems.”
It’s Not Just About SQL Server
“I’m not that deep into SQL but as the CTO, SQL Cruise has been excellent for setting direction and pointing out what we as a company need to focus on in the coming year.”
$50,000 Saved During One Dinner
“Our company saved $50,000 between licensing, consulting and setting our direction last night over dinner.  This paid for me to bring three of us on SQL Cruise and quite more.  We’ll definitely be back next year!”

When we started SQL Cruise in 2010 we did so assuming that we would produce one event per year and focus only on SQL Server. Much has changed over the years and technology has rapidly shifted and scaled out requiring us to rethink our event model. Starting in 2018 we will be running two tracks for our flagship event and they’ll be changing names to fit better with the model covering data from all sides.

Our Data Expeditions will still have a dedicated track to address the topics of interest to those working with the data platforms serving as a foundation to the modern world. Database Administrators, Data Architects, Database Developers, and those who manage these individuals will be served from this track. There will also be a healthy dose of topics related to Cloud Computing in this track.

The other track will focus on topics related to Developers who focus on the back end of the technology ecosystem: building APIs, creating interfaces between applications and databases or other applications, architecting solutions that require coding for success. These individuals may not work directly within the data tier but they rely on the database and give it purpose by providing access to the data from critical applications.

What made SQL Cruise great will not change: Thought Leaders in their fields providing insight in formal sessions and mentoring outside of class. We also will continue in our efforts to make well-rounded Technology Leaders by infusing professional development topics and coaching throughout the week.

We have seen great things from our Alumni of SQL Cruise and now it’s time to grow with the times and provide our model to a larger audience to share what only those who have attended SQL Cruises know – these events are unlike any you’ve attended before.

One of the reasons we’ve decided to change our brand identity and focus is because we felt the successes we’ve been able to bring our DBA-centric alumni need to be shared with a wider audience that also relies on data – but from different aspects of Information Technology. “SQL” and “Cruise” are too restrictive both for the audience we already have and the audience we want to reach.

To that end we’ve reached out to Chris Woodruff who is very well known to the Developer audience and connected to Microsoft which is the producer of the data platform languages and offerings we’re so closely aligned. Chris is a consultant, developer community activist, former INETA board member, PASS board member for community, and was once ranked in the top 20 Microsoft MVPs world-wide. Chris brings energy, vision, experience in both the data and developer arenas, and deep knowledge in development achieved in over 20 years as an IT professional to Tech Outbound.

He will be leading the Developer track for the up-coming Tech Outbound Caribbean 2018 event and will also be presenting as part of that track.

If you’re a Developer interested in spending 7 days embedded with thought leaders that you can learn from, and build a deeper network with, then you should look at attending Tech Outbound Caribbean 2018. Visit our registration page to reserve your seat today.
